The Bellwether…

The bellwether opened the door to the old church building and stepped outside. He squinted as his eyes adjusted to the midday light and looked around to see if anyone was around. As usual, the sidewalk leading up to the entrance was desolate. As it had been for the last forty or so years. Most had forgotten the last time the bell rang and the church became the outpost for humanity. Time has that effect, wearing away our memories of the horrible things.

As the bellwether turned to walk back in, he took one final look up at the sun. That’s when he saw the black spot. That’s when he knew it was time to open the doors. That’s when he knew it was time to ring the bell.

Evil had returned.
