Chain That Binds…

Kreegan strode up the beach, his chain dragging behind him leaving deep cuts in the sand. He breathed deep the salt air, filling his lungs with the rich aroma of blue sky and green grass. He let his toes sink into the wet earth, feeling the water recede drawing him down, as if the sea was not yet ready to let go of it’s quarry.

He shook his head, his green-tinted, long, black hair sticking to his face as the tendrils caught him as they whipped around. Shells and seaweed fell to the beach as continued to shake and walk inland, leaving a distinct line of ocean debris in his wake. And still his chain drug behind him.

Finally, he stepped over the dune in one swift motion and stopped, the firmness of the soil beneath his toes so unfamiliar, lost in memories from long ago. And Kreegan smiled as he stood on dry land for the first time in two hundred years. The curse was finally broken.
