I remember when…

I remember when –

Saturdays were for cartoons

And sleeping in late.

I remember when –

Days seemed to last forever

And nights went to quick.

I remember when –

Christmas felt so far away

But was done too soon.

I remember when –

Birthdays were celebrated

And not so dreaded.

I remember when –

Mom made sure I was awake

And not my alarm.

I remember when –

Cookies and brownies were great

And not to be feared.

I remember when –

Life felt like it had no end

And the world felt huge.

I remember when –

Dreams were meant to be epic

And totally seized.

I remember when…

Taps…

Taps-haiku

Truth be told, it’s rare that I hear Taps and don’t get a bit teared up.

To Everything… Change.

No sooner the morning comes when

the mid day sun passes over the zenith.

No sooner to celebrate lunch prepared

Then dinner plates come between us.

And no sooner do we say hello

Then we say our final farewells.

Xanax…

Nothing...

Someone recently made the joke, “Xanax, take me away”, playing off the old Calgon commercials. It was too good not to use. Also, I’ve never taken a Xanax, so, I have no idea if this is how they work… just saying.

Jörmungandr…

pleisiosaur_

At just after 2 a.m., Donald Blake stepped back from the snake-like sculpture, the hammer hanging heavily in his still tingling hand. He looked at the metal monstrosity, finally feeling the compelling urge to create it subsiding. A smile slipped across his lips as he saw the resemblance to the monster in his dreams, remember how two nights ago in a fit of anxiety he was forced to come out and create.

Taking a deep breath, he let the mallet slip out of his hand and crash to the ground.

“Let this serve as a warning, Midgard is protected.”

Flashes of White…

Flashes of White

Sometimes, poetry can be as simple as one line. Oh, the words are totally mine, but the photo isn’t… in case you were wondering.

3 Simple Rules…

3 Simple rules for making sure that no diversion can ever distract you.

  1. Don’t get distracted.
  2. If you got this far, you didn’t listen to rule 1.
  3. Alright, at this point, it’s obvious you aren’t paying attention to the rules, so best just to quit.

There you have it, 3 simple rules to keep from ever getting distracted.
